DOB: July 10th, 2000 ◦ Height: 5’3”
Born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, Avery Snyder began her dance training locally at the Wilson School of Dance at the age of 3. When her interest in ballet grew into a passion for the art form, Avery sought private training to refine her technique. She took 2 years of private lessons with Nicole Busse McGurn before attending the newly formed Charlottesville Ballet Academy in 2011.
Avery trained at the Charlottesville Ballet Academy until 2016 when she joined the professional company as a trainee while she simultaneously completed her junior year of high school. Here she was given a taste of the company experience as well as gained the skills necessary to balance a professional career and be a full-time student. She performed alongside the professional company in their mainstage performances as well as in full-length productions of The Nutcracker and The Firebird. Additionally, she was involved in the company’s outreach programs helping to educate the community about dance.
During her summers, Avery attended summer intensive dance programs including American Ballet Theatre’s summer program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts campus, followed by Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre in 2015 and Kaatsbaan Ballet Intensive in 2016.
In 2018, Avery decided to leave home and attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school classical ballet program for her senior year. Avery continued her training at the collegiate level at UNCSA and graduated in May of 2021 with a BFA in classical ballet. During her time at UNCSA, Avery had the opportunity to perform both corps de ballet roles, such as Snow and Flowers in The Nutcracker and Bournonville’s La Conservatoire, as well as soloist roles in Gerald Arpino’s Viva Vivaldi and as Cygnet in Petipa’s Swan Lake.
Following her graduation from UNCSA, Avery accepted a traineeship with American Repertory Ballet for the 2021-22 season, a position which acts as both the corps de ballet of the professional company and the highest level of Princeton Ballet School. In 2022, Avery was given the opportunity to work alongside the professional company to premiere Ethan Stiefel’s newly-choreographed A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Avery has had the opportunity to perform, in addition to corps de ballet roles, soloist roles such as Dew Drop in The Nutcracker, Lilac Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty, and Moyna in Giselle.
